A touching story of survival and a historical masterpiece that captured the hearts of Finns.
Headwind is an epic tale of the yearning for freedom, injustice and unyielding love. Set in late 18th-century Ireland and the harsh conditions of an Australian penal colony, Headwind is a brutal yet beautiful portrayal of a people who refused to break under oppression.
The story in brief
A young Irish girl, Mary Mulvane ( Mary Larkin ), is unjustly sentenced to seven years in exile in Australia for stealing a yellow lace shawl. Her journey to the ends of the world in the hold of a sailing ship is just beginning.
In New South Wales, Mary encounters the brutal colonial system, but also the love of her life, convict Jonathan Garrett ( Jon English ). Together they try to build a life in a country filled with danger, corruption and military rule.
