Orphans from the Sudanese civil war, known as the "Lost Boys of Sudan," are given the chance of a lifetime when they are granted asylum in the United States. Upon arriving in Kansas City, they encounter a whole new world full of wonder but also bewildering challenges.
They are met by Carrie (Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon ), a straightforward and practical employment agent who is initially hired to find them jobs. As she observes the young men's struggles to adapt to modern America and the trauma they carry, Carrie becomes drawn into their lives, learning invaluable lessons about family, sacrifice and humanity.
