SF Classics: The Regiment's Sorrow & The Sorrow's Boy (DVD)
Room, inspection and guaranteed laughter – two comedy classics on the same album!
Get ready for a laugh march! This DVD release brings two of the funniest military adventures in Finnish cinema to your home theater, where discipline and order are put to the test at the hands of a father.
1. The Regiment's Lament (1938)
The first and perhaps most famous Finnish military comedy of all time. The story tells of the kind-hearted but slow and clumsy Hemminki Saastamoinen ( Kaarlo Kartio ), for whom military discipline is an insurmountable challenge. When you add a scheming sergeant and misunderstandings to the mix, barracks life is pure fun for the viewer!
2. The Son of Sorrow (1958)
Two decades later, the sequel takes us to a new generation. Hemminki Saastamoinen's son, Panttila ( Heikki Heino ), arrives to do his military service. The hereditary factors quickly begin to appear: although the boy tries his best, the soup is ready and the regiment's nerves are tested. Also joining us is the legendary Reino Helismaa !
