Aarne of Niskavuori (DVD)
Blood inheritance and heart choice confront each other in the lands of Niskavuori.
Niskavuoren Aarne (1954), directed by Edvin Laine, is one of the most beloved dramas in Finnish film history. It tells the story of Aarne ( Tauno Palo ), the heir to Niskavuoren, who has left his homestead and wife Marta ( Elsa Turakainen ) to go to the city to be with his beloved Ilona Ahlgren ( Rauni Luoma ).
When the old landlady of Niskavuori ( Loviisa , played by the stunning Emma Väänänen ) calls her son back to save the family estate, Aarne finds himself in a tearing conflict between duty and passion. Is the land he inherited more important than his own happiness? The film is full of great emotions, strong character roles and the Finnish soul landscape at its best.
