Directed by Edvin Laine, Sleeping Beauty is based on the popular play by Sakari Topelius. The film takes the viewer into an enchanted world of a castle and royalty, where good and evil compete. The story follows a familiar plot: a royal couple have a daughter, but an evil fairy, who has not been invited, places a curse on the child, plunging the entire castle into a hundred-year slumber.
The film is visually stunning for a production of its era, and was partly shot in historical locations such as Aulanko and Olavinlinna, giving it a genuine fairy-tale atmosphere.
