The story begins in a besieged city, where the aged Baron von Munchausen (John Neville) decides to prove he's still got it. He embarks on an incredible journey to find his former loyal companions to save the city. The journey takes him and a little girl named Sally to the moon, into the depths of a volcano to meet Vulcan, into the belly of a giant whale, and finally into the midst of an impossible battle.
