Crazy August, directed by Taru Mäkelä, is a stylish and warm-hearted film that takes the viewer into the hustle and bustle of Helsinki in 1962. The Cold War is at its peak and the city is preparing for a youth festival, but the life of hat shopkeeper Elsa Kivikoski ( Kati Outinen ) is turned upside down when the past walks in through the door.
Elsa's childhood sweetheart, Czech jazz musician Jan ( Miroslav Etzler ), arrives in Helsinki to perform. A week full of excitement, longing and humor begins, during which the old salt begins to thirst - despite the Iron Curtain, suspicious authorities and decades of silence in between.
