Completed in 1998, Too Fat for a Butterfly is a touching and humorous story about a girl named Erna who arrives to work at a small village shop. Erna is a tall woman – or as she herself says, "too fat for a butterfly" – but she has a heart of gold and a tremendous work ethic.
Something unexpected ignites behind the counter of the village shop when the quiet and thin shopkeeper Lauri falls in love with Erna. The film is a beautiful depiction of Finnish heart, overcoming prejudices and how two different people can find happiness in each other under the eyes of the world.
