Crime, guilt and forbidden love in the fog of San Francisco.
Directed by John Madden and written by David Henry Hwang, the film is set in 1950s San Francisco. FBI agent Kevin Walker ( Matt Dillon ) is assigned to investigate communist infiltration of the city's Chinese community. His testimony leads to the conviction of an innocent man, with tragic consequences. Years later, Kevin falls in love with the convicted man's daughter ( Joan Chen ) and is forced to confront the mistakes of his past.
