Directed by Maarit Lalli and awarded three Jussi Awards (including Best Film and Best Direction), Kohta 18 is a startlingly authentic and honest portrayal of the lives of young people in Helsinki on the threshold of adulthood. The film follows five boys as they struggle with independence, love, family relationships and expectations for the future.
The film has received special praise for its fresh approach and believable dialogue. It does not preach, but shows youth as it is: sometimes raw, sometimes sensitive and full of great emotions. One of the main roles is played by the director's son Rasmus Lalli.
