Killing Them Softly is a stylish and politically charged crime thriller directed by Andrew Dominik ( The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford ). The film is set in the underworld of New Orleans, where traditional rules are breaking down and the economic crisis is gripping even criminals.
The story begins when three amateur robbers decide to rob a poker game run by the local mafia. The act shakes up the entire illegal economy of the city, and the mafia sends in a "cleaner", Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt). Cogan's mission is clear: restore order and eliminate the culprits - preferably painlessly and from a distance, in other words, "kill them softly".
