Hollywoodland is a sophisticated and atmospheric crime drama based on a true and still unresolved mystery: the death of Superman actor George Reeves in 1959. The film paints a magnificent yet brutal picture of the dark side of the dream factory, where fame and success can be fatal.
Oscar winner Adrien Brody plays Louis Simo, a scruffy private detective who begins investigating Reeves' (Ben Affleck) alleged suicide at the request of his mother. Simo's investigations take him deep into Hollywood's power structures, relationships, and deceptions, where nothing is as it seems. Ben Affleck delivers one of the finest performances of his career in the film (awarded at the Venice Film Festival), interpreting the fate of a tragic star who wanted to be more than just a man in tights.
