Directed by Mika Kaurismäki, The House of Branching Love is a darkly humorous comedy about the end of a marriage and the impossible situation when neither of them agrees to leave their shared home. The film is based on Petri Karra's popular novel and offers a witty look at a modern Finnish relationship.
Family therapist Juhani ( Hannu-Pekka Björkman ) and successful businesswoman Paula ( Elina Knihtilä ) decide to separate. Since their shared luxury apartment cannot be sold immediately, they agree to live under the same roof in separate rooms – until one finds a new partner. The rule turns out to be a mistake when both start competing to see who can bring home the most spectacular conquest. A wild and vengeful game begins, involving prostitutes, impersonators and professional criminals.
