The year is 1985 in Dallas. Electrician and rodeo cowboy Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) receives a diagnosis that changes everything: he has HIV and is given only 30 days to live. With official treatments still in the testing phase, Ron refuses to accept his death sentence.
He begins a fight for survival by searching the world for alternative treatments and founding the "Dallas Buyers Club" - a network that provides life-saving drugs to those in need. Alongside an unlikely ally, trans woman Rayon (Jared Leto), Ron challenges the pharmaceutical industry and the authorities in a fight for the right to live.
