8 Mile is a gritty and gritty drama set in 1995 Detroit, divided by "8 Mile Road"—a road that serves as the boundary between city and suburb, black and white. The film follows Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith (Eminem), a young man living in a trailer park with his alcoholic mother ( Kim Basinger ) and dreaming of a better life through rap music.
Jimmy struggles to find his voice in a world where his abilities are constantly questioned, overcoming his own fears and his opponents at local rap clubs where verbal duels (battle rap) are the only way to earn respect.
